This reflection is focused on the blue heron exhibition direct mail campaign, which requires careful consideration and strategic planning to ensure its success. Two critical components must be addressed for this project:
the style of the communication and the methods employed to make it effective.
Firstly, the style encompasses the visual and textual elements that will be used in the direct mail piece. It is essential to choose a style that resonates with the target audience while also reflecting the essence of the blue heron exhibition. This could involve selecting a color palette that evokes the natural habitat of the heron, using images that capture the grace and beauty of these birds, and employing typography that conveys a sense of elegance and sophistication.
Troubleshooting: Initially, I selected a vibrant color palette because it was attractive, but it didn't work as expected. So, I opted for a hand-drawn style using only blue.
The overall aesthetic should be cohesive and engaging, drawing the recipient's attention and encouraging them to learn more about the exhibition.
Secondly, the effectiveness of the direct mail hinges on how well it communicates its message and prompts action.
To achieve this, it is vital to incorporate clear and compelling calls to action, such as inviting recipients to visit the exhibition, attend an opening event, or participate in related activities. Additionally, providing information about the exhibition’s dates, location, and highlights will help to generate interest and excitement.
Troubleshooting: Consistent Style in Details. Initially, the shapes and images weren't quite consistent, as I combined hand-drawn styles with hard-corner shapes. But thanks to our amazing instructor Alanna, I was able to zero in on what's truly important!
With the incredible guidance of Instructor Alanna, I was thrilled to push my boundaries and create a fantastic design! She helped me understand what makes a layout stand out, choose the perfect typeface, and brainstorm creative ideas. Although I still have a journey ahead to craft a more engaging cover and deliver an appealing, intriguing message, I'm excited for what's to come!
